When we were invited by Bacon’s College to refresh their branding and produce a school prospectus we felt it was essential to experience life at the college for ourselves.
Visiting the College for the first time, we were struck by the bright modern school complex and its surroundings of green space and woodland. We felt straight away that both the refreshed identity and the prospectus needed to capture these qualities of space, light and colour.
We then spent some more time at the school, meeting the pupils and teachers so that we could get a real flavour of the personality of the place and the people who inhabited it.
As one of the specialities of the college is design and communications, it seemed natural to encourage the students to produce their own publications – rather than just feature their work in the prospectus. To facilitate this we produced an easy to follow design toolkit, showing blueprints for grids, typefaces, layout and colours.
Drawing all of this together we created an updated, simplified logo, with cleaner, brighter house colours and brand guidelines to feed through into other communications, including the website.
For the prospectus, we came up with a cover concept to symbolise the nurturing qualities of the school and its encouragement of students' growth in calm, light, green surroundings. Inside, using specially commissioned photography, and quotes from students and staff, we produced a vibrant document of life in the school.
